Swine flu and your immune system

I am sure that most of you have been glued to the news and watching all of the news releases regarding the swine flu.  President Obama addressed the nation and encouraged everyone to go to their doctor immediately with any signs and symptoms.  As a resident of Charlotte I have been raising my awareness by watching the local news to find out the latest.  I would encourage you all to follow the center for Disease Control at www.cdc.gov/ for the latest news on this crisis.  A few tips to make sure you are avoiding germs as best you can is to ALWAYS wash your hands when water is available.  If no water is accessible make sure you clean your hands with an alcohol sanitizer.

Now I want to focus on your immune system and why it’s so important to your health and wellnes.  How many times have you and a friend been around someone who who was sneezing and coughing?  A few days later you come down with sickness and yet your friend who was exposed to the same germs remain perfectly healthy.  The difference is the power of the immune system.  The primary role of your immune system is to protect your body from bacterial viral infections such as colds and influenza, parasites, and microbes.  It creates a barrier that prevents bacteria and viruses from entering your body.  If a bacteria or virus does get into the body, the immune system tries to detect and eliminate it before it can make itself at home and reproduce.  If the virus or bacteria is able to reproduce and start causing problems, your immune system is in charge of eliminating it.  Many factors can lead to a weakened immune system including vitamin deficiency, cigarette smoking, being overweight, stress, excess alcohol, and lack of exercise.   Those who are under chronic stress have been shown to have lower than normal white blood cell counts.  It is not always possible to reduce the amount of stress in our lives. For those who can’t, vitamin supplementation and an immune system aid are the best way to go.   Nutrition is vital in order to achieve a strong immune system.  Make sure and register for your free grocery report which includes menu plans and nutritional facts at www.healingcharlotte.com

Other tips can include drinking lots of water, getting plenty of rest, and of course exercise!!!!  Remember that your  immune system is your shield of armour to overall health and wellness.  Until next time Train Hard and Eat Healthy!

What Does Boot Camp offer that working out individually doesn’t offer?

Women’s Boot Camp Fitness is the new trend in fitness and is literally taking over the fitness industry.    Regardless of your age or fitness history you will get an intense workout and trust me you WILL get results.  If you’re not sure if Boot Camp is right for you, here’s 5 reasons why I think it is…

#1 – Support: You will always have a drill-sergeant…
Err, I mean trainer to make sure you are doing all of
the exercises in a safe and results effective manner.
#2 – Motivation: And of course the trainers on hand
will push you hard to get the heart beating and the
blood pumping.
#3 – Competition: It’s human instinct and impossible to
resist. And when your competitive side kicks in you’ll
find yourself trying hard to beat what the other ladies
can do at Boot Camp. This friendly competition is good
though, because it means you push yourself harder and
get results faster.
#4 – Challenge: You will not have went through an
exercise circuit as intensive as this before and you
WILL feel the burn (that’s good) after your very first
session.
#5 – Fun: And finally, because of the Healing Strength
Fitness Boot Camp group element, it’s just a good laugh
which makes it a lot easier for you to commit to the
sessions.
…Again, though that’s what I think… But I want to
leave it up to you to decide for yourself which is why
I am giving you the opportunity to attend one Boot Camp
class completely FREE first. Full details at the

On Top Of The World

Me and Kendrick on top of the World!

Me and Kendrick on top of the World!

Not much about fitness in this blog  just me and my son Kendrick.  We went for a evening hike Saturday March 7Th at Crowders Mountain State Park.  He lead the way as I coached and encouraged my girl friend Jackie to continue on the trail.  We all made it to the top and it was a pretty cool feeling to be up there all as one.  It is something about nature that is refreshing and energizing.  The view behind us was breath taking.  As we stood on one of the cliffs I had a moment to whisper a prayer and thank the maker.  I have lived for this moment I felt so close to  the spirit and to those around me.  I hope this can inspire someone who has a child and want to hike or play or just move with there loves ones but are inhibited by being over weight or just out of shape.  Let this picture be your inspiration and move for your life.  One small movement at a time and you can achieve anything in life and the rewards will be breath taking.  Until next time Train Hard and Eat Healthy!

Proper Training Methods

Cardio conditioning for a football player
Improving your speed in the 40-yard dash can be accomplished in a couple of different ways. The average play lasts somewhere between 5 and10 seconds, so during the off season you want to train the right energy system.  However, a word of caution is warranted here – if you get exhausted to the point where you are vomiting, your body’s natural defense mechanism has kicked in and is telling you that you are training the wrong system.  Many young athletes assume that when this happens that it’s a sign of a good workout.  Wrong; you may have gotten a workout but not from the right energy system. In some of my past articles, I spoke about the Adenosine Triphosphate and Phosphocreatine( ATP/PC) system. This is the system that you want to train. This system will allow you to perform at a 100 percent intensity level for at least 10 seconds and it is a no-oxygen or anaerobic system. This is the main system that is used during an actual football game.

Many of today’s athletes have the ability to optimize there natural athletic ability but are just not training the right systems.  Go now to my main website www.healingcharlotte.com and click on the in the news link, from there read my article titled Proper Training Methods Make a Difference.  Learn how to properly train your ATP/PC system now.  Until next time Train Hard and Eat Healthy!

Commitment To Promises Promises To Reality

As I caught a quick look at some of the inauguration parties and celebrations on television today.  I heard a very powerful quote that once was said by one of or great presidents, Abraham Lincoln.  Historian say, “Abraham the 16thpresident of the United States, guided his country through the most devastating experience in its national history–the CIVIL WAR.” The history speaks truth but one thing that he said during this time still stands for today and present.  Now… I will not get all school boy on you but I will say this famous quote and hope that you reflect on your life and your current health in today’s time.  Will you be here living your life to the fullest five years from now?  Will you be living vibrant with health or dieing slowly with death?  Abraham Lincoln once said,”Commitment is what turns a promise into reality.”  Have you made new years resolution, promises to yourself and family?  Are you committed to that promise?  If you had any doubt in what I just asked then you properly is not committed.  The solution is simple, re-commit the starting over process is still working today. A broken promise can still become reality, I challenge you to commit to a better life and watch how things change.  Until next time Train Hard and Eat Healthy!  Go to www.charlottechallenge.com “How To Make 2009 Your Best Year Ever!”
